The William Wallace Statue stands some hundred yards west of the B6356 on the east side of the Tweed Valley lesser than a mile north of Dryburgh Abbey. It is reached along an expansive forest way that leads from the vehicle park beside the street which, at the ideal season, offers the strong scent of wild garlic. What you find toward the finish of the walk is an impressive structure of red sandstone, comprising a 21ft tall figure standing on top of a 10ft high plinth. It was uncovered here on 22 September 1814, having been commissioned by David Stuart Erskine, eleventh Earl of Buchan, and cut by John Smith of Darnick.
