The beginning point of the Freedom Trail, Boston Common is the ancient park in the country. At 50 sections of land (20 hectares), it is the anchor for the Emerald Necklace, an arrangement of associated parks that breezes through huge numbers of Boston's areas. The notable park was at one time a campsite for British soldiers during the Revolutionary War. John Hancock's manor neglected Boston Common, and as the Governor's significant other, Dorothy Quincy Hancock was obliged to engage 300 maritime officials during a visit from Admiral D'Estaing's French armada in 1778. Confronting a shortage of milk, she extemporized and sent workers to the Common to drain the network cows.
