Major streets and roads inside the city are set to host art and cultural occasions because the Greater Chennai Corporation, after the achievement of the pedestrian plaza in T Nagar, has decided to transform streets into ‘happy streets’. Even though the challenge might be implemented by way of Chennai Smart City Limited (CSCL), roads and streets could be handed over to corporate firms and occasion management firms to organise artwork and cultural activities. The civic body had organised vehicle-loose day events in Besant Nagar near Elliot’s Beach on Sunday mornings through blocking off automobiles so that residents can participate in song and fitness sports. “Similarly, we are able to block the roads selected for the ‘happy streets’ at some point of early morning hours of each Sunday. If the chosen avenue has centre median, we are able to block visitors on one facet and conduct events on the other aspect. Some of the activities that the Chennai Corporation has planned encompass music events, video games, fitness activities and artwork competitions. The civic frame also has plans to increase the ‘satisfied streets’ venture to the entire town to promote non-motorised delivery.
