The Isle of Portland is the Jurassic Coast’s most southerly point, and is joined to the mainland by using simply a skinny strip on the southern quit of the sweeping arc of Chesil Beach. Its isolated vicinity and exquisite surroundings make it a real explorer’s island, at the same time as the relatively mild climate permits an extensive variety of plants and fauna to thrive. The great way to discover this captivating island is on foot. The South West Coast Path loops across the island, and there is a superb network of inland pathways giving high-quality access to a wide style of features. The homes at the island are rich in history, even as Portland Bill at the southern tips capabilities no fewer than 3 lighthouse structures. Many parts of the island, inclusive of the whole of the shoreline, are distinctive as Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Chesil Beach and the Fleet lagoon are of international conservation significance and home to nearly three hundred species of chook, over 30 species of butterfly and 720 species of moth. Chesil Beach itself has intrigued geologists for centuries and is one of the best examples of a barrier seaside everywhere within the world.
