Old North Church

The suffering fame of the Old North started on the night of April 18, 1775, when two lamps were hung in its steeple by church sexton Robert Newman and vestry member Captain John Pulling, Jr. This sign, conceived by Paul Revere, told Patriots holding up in Charlestown that British soldiers (known as Regulars or Redcoats) were leaving Boston "via ocean," not via land, to hold onto rebel stores of weapons in Lexington and Concord. Riding a horse, the Patriot riders, including Paul Revere, at that point cautioned the individuals of Middlesex County of the approaching soldiers. This critical occasion lighted the American Revolution.
